2013 is the year that marked the emergence of Tamar Braxton as a musical force, standing alone in her own right and no longer living in her sister Toni’s shadow.
Toni Braxton’s youngest sister released her sophomore album “Love and War” in September and it has sold close to 200k units in the US so far, this is considered a major accomplishment in today’s music market that is not very friendly to r&b artists.
“Love and War” was pushed by the crossover appeal of the title track and a clever presence on social media by Tamar who was also able to capitalize on the fan base coming from her hit WE tv reality show Tamar & Vince a spin-off of Braxton Family Values.
Few days ago Tamar Braxton premiered her new music video “Hot Sugar,” the fourth single taken from “Love and War.” In the new visual, it seems that the “All The Way Home” singer tries to accomplish different things.
For example she tried to broaden her appeal by having male dancers in heels, taking a page from Beyonce by wearing a blonde ponytail and leaving her comfort zone by trying to execute a choreography.
The result for the whole thing is slightly confusing and even her most adamant fans are saying that the idea behind the clip was poorly executed. Tamar should nonetheless be praised for getting back in top physical form for her new music video since she gave birth to her first child very recently.
That’s one of the positive aspects of the “Hot Sugar” music video along with the fact it seems that she had a lot of fun making it.
Tamar Braxton who has been involved for the past year in a bitter internet feud with Atlantic Records’ R&B talent K. Michelle is currently accompanying John Legend on his “Made To Love Tour” that will be in Boston, MA on Tuesday and Washington, DC Wednesday.
The young Braxton sister will also be releasing a Christmas album titled “Winter Loverland” on November 11.
